magnificent displays of flowers. Not to be missed are the Botanical Gardens with
thousands of imported plants thriving in the temperate climate ..
If your interests are in flowers, walking or just relaxing in friendly, unhurried
surroundings then Madeira is a perfect choice. Madeira is known as ‘The Garden Isle‘
and Spring and Autumn are especially popular times to visit, though the climate is
favourable throughout the year.
There are innumerable gardens and parks to visit including the Botanical Garden,
home to over 2,000 plants from Madeira, the Azores, Canaries and Cape Verde and a
Tree Garden with trees from as far away as the Himalayas and the Tropics.
Madeira Flower Festival each year attracts visitors from throughout the world. For
a weekend the streets of Funchal are transformed and Funchal is in carnival mood.
There are parades through the streets in traditional costumes accompanied with music
and dancing, flower carpets adorn the streets, shop windows are decorated and traditional
music is performed. There are also flower exhibitions, classical music concerts and
a number of variety shows. All in all this is a weekend not to be missed. In 2014
the Flower Festival will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May.
